A week in pic’s , no2.

Screen Shot 2013-05-22 at 5.18.12 PMIts great to blog for archival, and its pretty groovy to get your work published….pretty much what Im aiming for, after I finish my studies, so prior too completion is great. This is a screen capture of the ABC web. I took the image of Darren Jew at his exhibition. He creates absolutely majestic under water images, google him, well worth the look. A really lovely man and I believe he takes groups out on these underwater adventures in Tonga. Imagine that hey, that’s another dream this year, to get the housing on the camera. I would really love to get into an underwater documentary. Saving those pennies for the housing. Thanks for the link Darren.

National Photographic Portrait Prize 2013

Canberra Nat Port Comp 2013-1

As most of you know I would not normally blog other peoples work, but the above images are a part of the 2013 National Photographic Portrait Prize 2013, amongst travel trinkets from Canberra. The pink background image is by Katherine Bennet and the image on the 2013 catalogue is by Charlie White.

Our Prime Minister, Julia Gillard opened the event along side Dr Helen Nugent and Louise Doyle, director of the National Portrait Gallery. The opening by these ladies was an honourable surprise. The winner of the event was Janelle Low, with her beautifully lit image of Yhonnie and Indianna. Congratulations to Janelle your image is as beautiful as your speech. The night kicked on with fantastic catering by the National Portrait Gallery, and it was great to meet some of the other artists, and some very hospitable Canberran’s….(Thanks for the Canberra tour Robyn and Vic).

Michael and the message 2013

For those of you who would like to see, this is the image that I entered into the National Portrait Competition. I would describe this image as a journalistic style image. Ive used a wide angle lens, and the only appropriate way that I found to light this is with a flash at about 6.30 a.m. ( Thanks to my sitter, Michael).

The following day I returned to the gallery to have my image taken with my portrait as I did not take a camera to the opening. The above image is taken beside my portrait of ‘Michael and the message’. I am photographed by my mum with Ivan, another lovely meeting.

a room with a view2-1

I had to put this view in. This is what I awoke to find the day after the exhibition opening. Hot air balloons flying across the city. Canberra is a really beautiful place, with many wonderful galleries and beautiful memorials. Make sure you visit if you ever get a chance.

This has been a little project that I started with the children when on holidays. It describes summer stuff,  and will complete a little family book Ive been working on. I think the backdrop still needs some work. I’ll see how time goes, now that I’m back on the study track. The kids are straight out of the pool, but I think I’ll try shooting earlier in the day next time too. Can’t believe how sore my fingers are from drawing.
